Lahore, 15th August: Pakistani embassy in Kabul is still active and no decision has been made to close it yet, a statement has been issued by Pakistan Foreign Office.

According to details, Foreign Office spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said that the situation in Afghanistan is changing rapidly and we are constantly observing it.

He added that help is being provided to Pakistani citizens in Afghanistan and all steps have been taken for the security of the diplomatic staff in Kabul.

With regard to the current situation in Afghanistan, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “Pakistan is closely following the unfolding situation in Afghanistan. Pakistan will continue to support the efforts for a political settlement. We hope all Afghan sides will work together to resolve this internal political crisis.”

The Embassy of Pakistan in Kabul is extending necessary assistance to Pakistanis, Afghan nationals and diplomatic and international community for consular work and coordination of PIA flights.

A special inter-ministerial cell has been established in the Ministry of Interior to facilitate visa/arrival matters for diplomatic personnel, UN agencies, international organizations, media and others.”

Meanwhile, the US officials have said their embassy will continue its work from the Afghan capital Kabul with limited staff and has instructed other embassies in Kabul to operate with limited staff at a safe location. However, the US embassy will continue a 24-hour operation to evacuate before Tuesday.

It should be noted that after two months of fighting between the Taliban and government forces in Afghanistan, the Taliban have entered the capital Kabul today. The Taliban have instructed their fighters to allow those who want to leave Kabul and provide them a safe passage.
