India: A lawyer allegedly tried to throw an object at Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai in court on Monday. The security personnel intervened and escorted the man out and detained. According to media reports, the man threw a shoe at the CJI.

According to ANI, a lawyer has said that while being escorted out of the courtroom, the man said, “Sanatan ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan (India will not tolerate the disrespect of Sanatan)”.

As per reports, CJI Gavai was unfazed by the incident and has said that he does not get distracted by these things.

This incident comes days after CJI Gavai dismissed a plea seeking restoration of a 7-foot-long beheaded structure of Lord Vishnu in the Javari temple in Khajuraho, MP.

The CJI, during the hearing of the Lord Vishnu idol matter, remarked that the petitioner seeking directions to restore the idol should go and seek the remedy by praying to Lord Vishnu, as the Court declined to entertain the same.

While refusing to hear the case, the top court had opined that it’s a dispute over a temple which is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), suggesting that the ASI is an authority better equipped to intervene in this regard.

The CJI had later clarified his remarks and stated that he respects all religions.

“Someone told me the other day that the comments I made have been portrayed on social media in a certain manner. I respect all religions,” said CJI Gavai.
