ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI – October 10, 2025: A comprehensive traffic diversion plan and partial communication blackout were enforced across Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday amid growing security concerns in the Faizabad area, where authorities anticipated unrest linked to ongoing religious demonstrations.
According to the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP), all types of heavy traffic have been banned from entering the capital until further notice, while light traffic has been diverted from all four directions of Faizabad. The public has been urged to follow the designated alternate routes to avoid gridlocks and potential confrontations near the protest zone.
Under the official diversion plan, traffic from Rawal Dam Chowk toward Faizabad has been redirected via Park Road, Captain Naeem Tufail Shaheed Chowk (Taramri), Lehtrar Road, Khanna, and Express Highway. Travelers heading to Islamabad International Airport have been advised to use Kashmir Chowk and Srinagar Highway.

Similarly, diversions have been implemented from Garden Flyover, Khanna Bridge, and Ninth Avenue toward alternate city arteries. Residents of I-8 Sector are instructed to use Zero Point, Srinagar Highway, and Club Road routes. Those traveling from Koral to Islamabad must divert via Lehtrar Road and Park Road, while commuters from IJP Road are advised to take Gohar Shaheed Chowk, Faqir Api Road, and Srinagar Highway.
Authorities have also diverted traffic from Zero Point and Faisal Avenue toward Srinagar Highway and 9th Avenue. Residents of Islamabad’s northern sectors — F-8 to F-11 and G-10 to G-11 — have been told to use Golra Mor and Srinagar Highway for movement toward Rawalpindi.
The ITP has urged citizens to remain tuned to FM 92.4 or the department’s WhatsApp channel for live traffic updates.
Rawalpindi, Islamabad Internet Services Suspended
In a parallel development, mobile data and internet services were suspended across major parts of the twin cities early Friday morning, leaving millions of residents disconnected. The disruption has triggered widespread frustration among citizens, students, and online workers whose livelihoods depend on internet connectivity.

Local businesses have been hit hard, with e-commerce, logistics, and freelance operations grinding to a halt. “Shutting down the internet instead of improving security is a violation of human rights,” complained one resident, adding that “the government is cutting off people’s livelihoods by disconnecting essential services.”
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the duration of the blackout, though the suspension is reportedly linked to security protocols surrounding planned demonstrations near Faizabad and Murree Road.
Situation Update: 9:00 AM
As of Friday morning, several key routes across the twin cities remained completely sealed:
- Liaquat Bagh – Murree Road
- Motorway (closed from Kala Shah Kaku)
- GT Road near Muridke (toward Islamabad)
- Motorway Fateh Jang Interchange
- Adiala Road Flyover
- Peshawar Road
- Serena Chowk
- Sawan Bridge

According to officials, the diversion plan remains active, and no new routes have been opened as of this morning. Clearance operations are ongoing, with security personnel deployed at sensitive points throughout the capital region.
