As world leaders gather in Egypt today to finalise the framework for the US-brokered Gaza peace plan, Narendra Modi will stay away. Instead, Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh will represent India at the high-level summit co-chaired by US and Egyptian Presidents Donald Trump and Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Despite a personal invitation from El-Sisi, Modi’s decision to skip has set off speculation about why he’s not attending the gathering in Sharm el-Sheikh where over 20 world leaders will meet to finalise the framework of a peace deal and discuss Gaza’s post-war reconstruction.

According to official and media sources, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not issued any formal statement explaining why he will not attend the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh (October 13, 2025). However, Indian government sources and media outlets have reported several likely reasons:

Modi reportedly received the invitation at the last minute, leaving no time to adjust his schedule or make the necessary travel arrangements.

Delegation Instead of Personal Attendance
Because of the tight schedule, India decided that Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh would represent the country at the summit instead of Modi himself.

But the main reason is Pakistan factor. Some Indian diplomatic sources told The Indian Express that since Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was attending the same summit, India preferred to avoid a situation where both leaders would appear on the same stage which could lead to political or media complications.
