The 20th death anniversary of eminent Sindhi folk Singer Zarina Baloch is being observed today.

She was known in public circles by her nickname “Jiji”.

Born at Goth Allah Dad in Hyderabad, Zarina Baloch had a passion for singing from an early age and in 1960 she became a regular student of Ustad Muhammad Juman at Radio Pakistan, Hyderabad.

She also participated in a singing competition of Radio Pakistan and clinched first slot among 600 competitors. She not only performed her musical magic in many programs on Pakistan Television but also acted in many dramas.

She was awarded with many awards, including the Shah Latif Award and the Qalandar Lal Shehbaz Award.

She died on this day in 2005 in Karachi.
