The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has filed a petition against Indian government in United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (UNWGAD) challenging the arrest, unlawful conviction, the death penalty petition and inadequate medical care like other injustices met with its illegally incarcerated party chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, who is languishing in infamous Tihar Jail for over last six years.

The JKLF has filed the petition through a UK-based international law firm.

The renowned lawyers team is led by competent and experienced international law expert Barrister Tariq Mehmood and is assisted by Barrister Carl Buckley and Barrister Aqsa Hussain.

The lawyers team flanked with UK-based JKLF leaders Prof. Raja Zafar Khan, Sabir Gul and Liaqat Ali Lone while announcing the filing of petition in a press conference held at their law chamber in London said that the petition has been filed on behalf of Yasin Malik after receiving the consent from JKLF leadership.

In a statement issued from party’s central information office, Islamabad, the JKLF chief spokesman, Muhammad Rafiq Dar, while giving details of the press conference, said the lawyers team in the said petition has questioned the Indian judicial system and their verdicts visa viz Yasin Malik’s politically motivated cases filed against him by Indian National Investigation Agency (NIA).

According to the statement, Barrister Tariq Mehmood while giving a detailed briefing to the media said that the petition has sought UNWG’s help in providing justice to Yasin Malik who has tremendously contributed in peaceful resolution of Jammu Kashmir dispute. Barrister Carl Buckley and Barrister Aqsa Hussain put light on different topics of the petition.

Rafiq Dar in his statement informed that JKLF Diplomatic Bureau Head Prof. Raja Zafar Khan, JKLF Central Chief Organiser Sabir Gul and JKLF UK President Liaqat Ali lone briefed the media about the injustices met with Yasin Malik during incarceration.
