Team India’s struggles continued in the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 as they slumped to a shocking defeat against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday at the Mission Road Ground. The Dinesh Karthik-led side suffered their second consecutive loss, just hours after a surprising setback against Kuwait.

Batting first after being sent in, India posted a strong 107/3 in six overs, powered by Abhimanyu Mithun’s blazing half-century and captain Dinesh Karthik’s unbeaten 42. The duo put up an entertaining stand that promised a match-winning total, but India’s bowlers failed to defend it against a fearless UAE side.

Chasing 108 for victory, UAE captain Khalid Shah delivered one of the most electrifying knocks of the tournament. The left-hander smashed 50 off just 14 balls, peppered with four fours and five massive sixes, tearing apart the Indian bowling attack.

Even as wickets fell, UAE maintained composure, eventually sealing the win with one ball to spare at 111/2 in 5.5 overs. Khalid’s stunning performance earned him the Player of the Match award and propelled UAE to one of their most famous victories in international sixes cricket.

For India, the loss marks a worrying trend after their earlier 27-run defeat to Kuwait, leaving them on the brink of elimination. Dinesh Karthik’s men will now need to regroup quickly and find their rhythm if they are to keep their tournament hopes alive.

The UAE, meanwhile, celebrated a historic triumph — one that showcased their rapid progress and fearless cricketing spirit on the global stage.
