A radio station dedicated to women has officially begun operations in Herat.

More than ten female journalists are working at this station, producing and broadcasting various programs related to women’s issues.

Shabnam Karimi, director of Nawaye Zan (Voice of Women) Radio in Herat, said: “Nawaye Zan is specifically for women, and all of our staff members are women. Our goal is to amplify the voice of women.”

Female journalists working at the station say their objective is to reflect the achievements and challenges faced by women and girls.

Saadiner Yazdanparast, a journalist, said: “Nawaye Zan, as its name suggests, is the voice of women in Herat province. Through this radio station and our programs, we can convey the voices and accomplishments of women to officials and the wider world.”

Fatemeh Karimi, another journalist, said: “I’m very happy that this radio station for women has been established in Herat province, and that all its employees are women. I’m glad to have the opportunity to share my voice with the world through this radio and equally happy to be working here.”

All programs on this station are focused on women. It is the only women-centered media outlet in the western region of the country.

Shamil Ahmad Mashal, head of the Afghan Journalists’ Safety Committee in the western zone, said: “We have consistently worked to ensure that media outlets are supported and continue their broadcasts and activities. Fortunately, we’ve had the support of the Islamic Emirate in this regard, and in the future, we aim to see even more media outlets active in Herat and across the western region.”

Nawaye Zan is the 14th active radio station in Herat.

According to local officials in Herat, government support for media has contributed to improving the operations of local outlets in the province.
