KARACHI — November 29, 2025: Legendary Pakistani actor Uzma Gillani — celebrated for iconic PTV classics such as Waris, Man-o-Salwa, Dehleez, and Firaaq — has shared her long-held wish to return to television, while voicing concern over the limited and stereotypical roles offered to senior women in today’s drama industry.
During a special anniversary transmission on PTV Home, where she appeared alongside veteran actor Jamal Shah, Uzma Gillani said she remains eager to work again after years of living in Australia. However, she stressed that she does not want to return only to portray “cruel mothers-in-law or rude elderly relatives,” which she believes have become the industry’s default depiction of older women.

“I am willing to work in dramas,” she said. “I was just telling Jamal Shah to get something written for me — God knows it may be my last play. But my concern is the roles given to elderly women. Sadly, they are mostly negative. I don’t want to play such roles.”
