India: The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Tihar Jail administration to provide immediate and adequate medical treatment to Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik in accordance with his health condition. The court further ordered that if the required medical facilities are not available inside the jail, Malik should be shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) or any other suitable hospital without delay.

The bench issued the directive after reviewing Malik’s latest medical records, observing that while his current condition does not appear life-threatening, his ailments require regular and comprehensive medical supervision.

During the hearing, Malik’s counsel argued that he suffers from heart and kidney complications and that essential medical support — including the availability of a cardiologist — is lacking in Tihar Jail. He requested the court to allow Malik’s transfer to AIIMS or another specialized medical facility.

Tihar authorities, however, maintained that Malik is a high-risk inmate, and any movement outside the prison requires strict security protocols. Despite this stance, the court instructed the jail administration to ensure that Malik is shifted to a hospital equipped with the necessary medical facilities, if needed.

Yasin Malik has been lodged in Tihar Jail since 2022 following his conviction in a terror-funding case, and he has repeatedly raised concerns over inadequate medical care. The court also directed jail officials to continue submitting updated medical reports and warned that any negligence in his treatment would not be tolerated.
