The sixteenth death anniversary of classical singer Ustad Sharafat Ali Khan is being observed today.

Born in Multan in 1955, Ustad Sharafat Ali Khan belonged to the famous musician and singer family of Sham Chourasi.

Shrafat Ali Khan learned the classical singing of thumri, kafi, khyaal and ghazal from his father and a proficiant classical singer Ustad Salamat Ali Khan.

He performed his art in many countries around the world and also delivered lectures on classical music in many universities.

Ustad Sharafat Ali Khan was awarded Pride of Performance Award by the President of Pakistan in 2011 posthumously.

He passed away in Lahore on this day after a brief illness.
