Coronavirus cases rise in the Gulf, KSA exceeds 200,000
The number of coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia has exceeded 200,000, while the neighboring United Arab Emirates (UAE) has more than 50,000 cases.
The number of new victims is rising after a complete curfew was lifted in the two major Arab countries last month. Sanctions have been in place in both countries since mid-March, and trade, business and public places have been reopened since the sanctions were lifted.
Saudi Arabia has the highest number of coronavirus victims compared to the six Gulf states. More than 4,100 cases were reported in the kingdom on Friday and Saturday, bringing the total number of victims in Saudi Arabia to 205,929. Moreover, there have been 1,858 deaths from the coronavirus in the country so far. The daily death toll rose to more than 4,000 for the first time in mid-June, but is now declining.
