Joint GREF-UMT Webinar on ‘Shared Economic Recovery’

Lahore, 30th July 2020: The first session of the annual webinar on “Shared Economic Recovery”, a conversational series involving international experts, took place in collaboration with Golden Ring Economic Forum (GREF) and University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore.

Originally scheduled as face-to-face workshops, a revised webinar format is now the best alternative to access the same expert information and speakers given the current situation with COVID-19.

Golden Ring Economic Forum was initiated in 2010. The basic idea is to share economic goals, create harmony, and device an action plan where member countries can take advantage of the knowledge and expertise attained by other member countries.

GREF, Economic Recovery and COVID-19

Initial members of this group are Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran, and Turkey. The idea is to create uniformity, ease of operation, and enhance cooperation in different sectors of the economy.

This will boost economic activities and the member countries will benefit when specific help will be rendered by the progressed member country.

China has a pivotal role to play in this consortium and has a proven history of consistent GDP growth. The technological advancement and system development has reached a pinnacle point and this Golden Ring Economic Forum (GREF) is definitely in line with the whims and desires of President Xi Jinping.

GREF Strategic Importance for Pakistan

The statement issued by the President is to grow in harmony and share resources and experience. China is definitely an example for the world as it has recovered from the adverse effects of pandemic and is successfully on the path of growth.

Other member countries need to take a lead from the successful strategies of China and adopt the same methodology. All member countries are fortunate that China is willing to work as a team and achieve collective goals.

US, China Tensions can Bifurcate the World

The first right is for these initial 5 members to reap the benefits of unity. Later on, more members will be added to expand the scope for the region.

GREF aims to act as a bridge between policymakers and stakeholders by providing key insight and taking economic experts on board to initiate and coordinate joint research programs for strategic economic projects in member states.
