Tamil Nadu, 1st July: A huge blast is reported at the Tamil Nadu area of India.

According to Baaghi TV, a blast at a power plant in India has killed at least 6 people and injured 17.

According to the ANI News Agency, the boiler stage of Neyveli Power Plant located in the Cuddalore district has killed at least six people and 17 are injured. The injured have been admitted to NLC Lignite Hospital.

The blast took place at a power plant of the central government-owned NLC India Limited (formerly known as Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited) in Cuddalore, about 180 km from the state capital Chennai.

The blast occurred in the fifth unit of the second station as workers were resuming work this morning. This is the second boiler blast in the plant, where another boiler had exploded in May, killing five, including two permanent staff.

According to local media, the cause for the blast that took place at the Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited is reported as “Unit V had shut down after it had tripped on Tuesday night. The workers and engineering staff were attempting to revive the unit when a fire reportedly broke out in the boiler, resulting in the explosion.”

 

Fire brigade and rescue teams have been engaged in rescue operations after the blast.
