A Nation Divided: Revisiting Quaid’s Vision for Pakistan
In the tumultuous landscape of contemporary Pakistan, marked by unrelenting political strife and instability, we find ourselves grappling with the remnants of a promise made at the birth of our nation. Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the visionary behind the creation of Pakistan, laid down principles in his 1947 speech that resonate even today.
Addressing government officers, Quaid emphasized the imperative for civil servants to operate within the framework of the law, pledging allegiance to the country and state they serve. He cautioned against aligning with political parties, underlining the importance of impartiality. Yet, as time has unfolded, political polarization has permeated every facet of our society.

The genesis of Pakistan, heralded by the announcement in the House of Commons on June 3, 1947, led to the partition of India. The subsequent exodus of millions of people resulted in a tragic chapter of mayhem and carnage, with a million lives lost and 15 million displaced. The scars of wars with India over Kashmir linger, exacerbating the challenges posed by our non-contiguous territories, akin to the distance between Alaska and the rest of America.
Baluchistan, comprising 45 percent of Pakistan, holds vast hidden wealth. Yet, our internal divisions impede growth, allowing us to claim only a meager 17 percent of our stake in the larger geopolitical landscape. As we grapple with our fragmented identity, Pakistan stands as a nation within nations, divided along political, religious, ethnic, and cultural fault lines.
Quaid-e-Azam envisioned a tolerant Pakistan, where citizens of all faiths could freely practice their religions. Sadly, we have strayed far from this ideal, tearing apart the very fabric of Quaid’s Pakistan. The nation, now facing a crisis, requires a unified strategy.

Our army, having made countless sacrifices, demands a resolution to differences with political leaders. It is imperative for all stakeholders, including political, military, and business leaders, to work in tandem, fostering congruence and harmony. Confidence must be reposed in our state organs, with a shared commitment to pull Pakistan out of its current predicament.
To usher in a new beginning, we must learn to respect our state institutions and rebuild trust. Only through a collective effort can we put Pakistan on the path to stability and prosperity, echoing the aspirations of the founding father, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
