Actual death toll in Iran could be “10 times higher”

According to a research by BBC Iran, the exact number of deaths due to COVID-19 in Iran could be 5 to 10 times higher than official figures.
According to official figures, 6,400 people died during the winter in Iran under normal circumstances, which is about 5,000 more than the number killed by the coronavirus during the same period.
The highest death rates were in Qom,Gilan, Mazandaran and Gulistan provinces, which were the epicenters of the outbreak in February and March.
Meanwhile, the death toll in the capital, Tehran, was higher than usual in all parts of the country.

Iran is the worst-affected country in the Middle East, with the pandemic gaining momentum in the south and west. So far, according to official figures, between 19,000 and 10,000 people have died, while 215,000 are confirmed victims.
