Washington, April 21 2021: Reports surfaced last month that the social media discussion platform Discord which is popular among amateur video game players, was in acquisition talks with Microsoft.

The deal would have potentially been valued at $10billion and would have increased Microsoft’s social media portfolio from just LinkedIN, the professional network it acquired in 2016. Now it seems, Discord which was created in 2015 in San Fransisco, has halted talks with Microsoft and is instead considering a public offering on Wall Street. Discord has a lot of gamers and users from XBox, Microsoft’s’ product that offers video games, consoles, motile games and offers streaming services.

Even though it is not yet profitable, Discord generated $130 million in revenue last year and allows its 140 million monthly users to exchange text, audio and video for free. The platform has since the pandemic moved from just gamers to other users.

In acquisition terms, at least three other companies have expressed a serious interest in Discord according to anonymous sources. But according to the Wall Street Journal, Discord may instead be looking toward a market debut, following the example other video game platforms such as collaborative gaming service Roblox.
