Ali Kazmi’s ‘Funny Boy’ gets nominated for Oscars

Lahore, 2nd March: Pakistani actor Ali Kazmi’s ‘Funny Boy’ is one of the Oscar-nominated movies.

Baaghi TV:  Out of 366 feature films eligible for this year’s Oscars Ali Kazmi’s movie ‘Funny Boy’ is one of them, which according to Variety is the highest number of eligible movies since the 1970 Awards.

According to reports, the Oscar Awards this year will be held on April 25 and nominations will be announced on March 15. From March 5 to  March 10 members of the Academy will vote for the categories.

The films which have opened in a commercial theatre in one of six US cities namely LA, New York, Chicago, the Bay Area, Chicago, Miami or Atlanta by February 28 and complete a minimum of seven consecutive days in the same venue, get nominated for the Oscar Awards

Kazmi took to his Twitter account to announce and spoke about what an honour it was to be mentioned.

Kazmi also shared on his Instagram, “What an honour and what a list to be included in! My name is right above Mathew McConaughey, so alright alright alright – my job is done.”

He also announced, “Our film Is available on Netflix and CBC Gem!”

The movie is about a young boy falling in love with a male classmate as political tensions rise in Sri Lanka between the Sinhalese and Tamils in the years leading up to the 1983 uprisings.

It stars Ali Kazmi, Brandon Ingram, Nimmi Harasgama and Agam Darshi and is directed by Deepa Mehta.

Kazmi has been part of local and international films, such as Motorcycle Girl, Laal Kabootar, Superstar, SardarJi and The Dependables.
