Lahore, 22nd September: Alleged corruption and electricity theft reported in LESCO.

According to the report of Baaghi TV, the A&P wing of NAB Lahore held a briefing on alleged corruption, power theft and administrative matters of LESCO.

A statement issued by NAB Lahore said that the briefing included aspects of LESCO’s provision of services to the public, redressal of grievances and aspects of LESCO’s overall performance.

The NAB A&P Wing has sought details of electricity tariffs of all private housing societies in Lahore.
Details of measures taken against the perpetrators of the assistance were also sought. NAB Lahore asked that full details of smart meters installation plan be provided to NAB Lahore as soon as possible.
CEO Mujahid Pervez Chatha said that no new recruitments have been made since 2015. Limited recruitments have been allowed this year. Although more than 9,000 posts are vacant in LESCO.
LESCO is currently facing 12.4% line losses. 3 years ago LESCO was facing an annual loss of Rs 8 billion, but now LESCO has become a profitable company with an annual collection of 366 billion.
Due to the shortcomings of the existing billing system, complaints of fuel adjustment by farmers have become commonplace.
A statement issued by NAB Lahore said that as per the instructions of Chairman NAB, NAB Awareness and Prevention Wing is trying to curb the alleged corruption in government institutions.
We want to promote transparency in projects through briefings and suggestions so that public money can be used by the people.
