According to the report of Baaghi TV, the police arrested 12 suspects who allegedly raped a woman near the motorway.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had taken notice of the incident. The Chief Minister, while seeking a report from the IG Punjab, directed that the culprits involved in the serious crime be arrested as soon as possible and justice be provided to the victim.
Two separate special teams headed by SSPIA and Divisional SP were formed. While DIG Investigation Lahore is overseeing all matters related to the investigation of the case.
Shahbaz Gul said that CCPO Lahore was leading the investigation team on the direction of Chief Minister Punjab.
Urban and role policing techniques are being used in the investigation. The investigation is being carried out with the help of detectives, CCTV footage and DNA.
It should be noted that a very tragic incident of gang rape of a woman on the motorway took place in Gujjarpura area of Lahore yesterday. Two men smashed a car window on the motorway and pulled the woman and her children out, then took them to nearby bushes and allegedly raped the woman in front of the children.
A woman from Gujranwala was on her way to Gujranwala from Lahore. She was waiting for her husband when the car ran out of petrol. The lady first called a relative and the relative asked to call the motorway police.
The woman received a reply on the Motorway Helpline that no one had been allotted Gujjarpura and the Motorway Police had not come. The woman was raped by two men before relatives arrived. The accused also took Rs 100,000 in cash, gold jewellery and ATM cards from the woman.
On the other hand, the statement of the motorway police regarding the rape of this woman has also come to light. A spokesman for the motorway police said that the tragic incident with the woman on national channels did not take place within the boundaries of the motorway police.
According to the spokesperson of the Motorway Police, the area of Karol Ghati and Gujjarpura police station is not in the area of the Motorway Police. The spokesman also said that Ring Road and Lahore Sialkot Motorway are also not under the motorway police.
