Andrew Cuomo, New York governor found guilty of harassing 11 women

Aug 4, 2021: According to the five-month investigation report of the state attorney general, New York Governor Andrew has violated state and federal laws and is proven to have harassed 11 women.

According to a report by Al Jazeera, according to the five-month investigation report of the state attorney general, Andrew Cuomo has violated federal and state laws and has harassed 11 women.

The New York attorney said the investigation found that Governor Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed current and former New York employees by engaging in unwanted and unwelcome touches and making a number of sexually provocative comments according to State Attorney General Letitia James.

“An independent investigation has revealed that Governor Komo sexually harassed several women, many of them young women,” James told a media conference on Tuesday.

While New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has rejected the investigation report, saying he has never touched anyone inappropriately, the facts presented are very different.

US President Joseph Biden has advised Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign following the incident. Speaking to reporters at the White House on Tuesday, the US president said he thought the governor should resign.

Mr Cuomo could now be impeached, and is also facing a separate criminal probe.

According to foreign media reports, Andrew Cuomo has refused to resign, while several members of parliament, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, have also demanded the governor’s resignation.

The attorney general’s investigation was commissioned last year after several women came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against the governor.

Investigators spent five months speaking to nearly 200 people, including Andrew Cuomo’s staff members and some of those who made complaints against him. Tens of thousands of documents, texts and pictures were reviewed as part of the inquiry.

On top of the allegations of harassment, Mr Cuomo is accused of presiding over a “hostile and toxic work environment”.

Joon Kim, who co-led the investigation, said: “It was a culture where you could not say no to the governor and if you upset him or his senior staff you’d be written off, cast aside or worse.”

In his statement, Mr Andrew Cuomo said: “I want you to know directly from me that I never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances.

“Today’s report from the New York State attorney general substantiated and corroborated the allegations of the brave women who came forward to share their stories – and we commend the women for doing so,” they said.

The investigation against Andrew Cuomo is civil, rather than criminal, so will not directly lead to charges.

But police could use the report in deciding to take further action and it is also likely to play a key part in a separate impeachment investigation he faces, as well as in a criminal inquiry in Albany, the state’s capital city.
