Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Information, Punjab Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has stated that the number of Corona virus cases in Punjab has increased to an alarming extent.
According to reports, Dr. Awan has stated that the Army has been called upon to facilitate i curbing the spread. In major cities across Punjab, the Pakistan Army, police and administration are set to collaborate to stop the virus from spreading further by ensuring the implementation of COVID-19 SOPs.
Earlier, the Federal Ministry of Home Affairs had approved the call for troops on the letter of the Punjab government. The young men of the Pakistan Army will work with the district administration to implement the SOPs in five districts of Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi and Gujranwala. Troops will be deployed where the rate of corona cases is high.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that the Pakistan Army and administration would assist in implementing the SOPs. Since then, the federal government has deployed army personnel in Islamabad who are serving in collaboration with the district administration. During the operation, hotels were sealed and fines were imposed.
On the other hand, Parliamentary Secretary for Health Dr. Noshin Hamid says that the situation is very serious due to the corona virus. Calling the Pakistan Army is also a tough step. Up to 90% of beds and ventilators are in use in hospitals. If the situation worsens, field hospitals will reopen. An attempt is being made to control the situation by imposing sanctions without lockdown.
