ISLAMABAD – August 20, 2025: A recent audit by the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) has revealed that leading telecom operator Jazz allegedly overcharged its mobile subscribers by Rs6.58 billion. The findings have triggered concerns over billing transparency and consumer protection in the telecom sector.

According to the report, irregularities were detected in Jazz’s billing system, with customers paying amounts beyond approved tariffs. The audit has called for strict regulatory action to safeguard users against unfair charges.

In response, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken notice of the report and confirmed that a review of Jazz’s billing practices is underway. The authority underscored that fair pricing and consumer rights remain its top priority, warning that any malpractice would face corrective measures.

Jazz, while yet to issue a detailed statement, is expected to engage with regulators to resolve the matter. Consumers who believe they were affected by overbilling have been advised to contact Jazz’s customer service for redressal, and may also lodge complaints directly with the PTA.

Analysts suggest that the findings highlight a broader need for stronger oversight in Pakistan’s telecom industry. With over 120 million mobile users in the country, even minor discrepancies can translate into billions of rupees in losses for subscribers.
