ISLAMABAD – October 4, 2025: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has assumed responsibilities as the acting President of Pakistan in line with constitutional provisions, following the simultaneous foreign visits of President Asif Ali Zardari and Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.
A notification from the Cabinet Division confirmed that Sadiq will serve under Article 49(2) of the Constitution, which authorizes the National Assembly Speaker to perform presidential duties in the absence of both the President and the Senate Chairman.

Sources revealed that President Zardari is currently abroad on an official tour, while Senate Chairman Gilani is also engaged in foreign commitments, creating the need for Sadiq to step in.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, one of Pakistan’s most seasoned parliamentarians, has been serving as the Speaker of the National Assembly and has played a key role in parliamentary and constitutional matters over the years. He will continue as acting president until the return of President Zardari.
