Baaghi TV to take Aurat March organizers to court

On International Women’s Day, the organizers for Aurat March on Tuesday, misused Baaghi TV’s logo to promote their agenda, following which Baaghi TV has announced the decision to take them to court.
Baaghi TV is known for raising the issue of women’s rights, highlighting the violence and atrocities committed against them, and reaching out to the authorities so that the women can get the justice and protection, they deserve. Baaghi TV has always played an important role in becoming the voice of the people and has always been vocal about helping the oppressed, especially women. Since the beginning, Baaghi TV is known for extensively covering events related to women and the marginalized.

On Tuesday, the organizers of Aurat March (Women’s March) placed a cutout with a picture of Baaghi TV’s reporter Faiz Chugtai, along with Baaghi TV’s logo around his neck and an inscription that translated means, “Such slogans lead to the rise of sexual abuse in society”.

In addition to Baaghi TV’s senior reporter/journalist, the organizers placed cutouts of other senior journalists including Orya Maqbool Jan.
The Lahore Press Club has condemned the move by the Aurat March organizers, stating that this action has endangered the lives of journalists. In a statement issued by the Press Club, authorities have stated, “We condemn the ridicule of journalists by making cutouts of them. The Press Club is a champion of women’s rights”.
According to Baaghi TV reports, the Lahore Press Club has urged the organizers to remove all such elements from their ranks, otherwise, journalists will boycott coverage of such events, and resort to protests.

Faiz Chugtai, senior Baaghi TV reporter/journalist has said, “Yesterday, Aurat March organizers placed pictures of several senior journalists, including me, outside of a local hotel endangering our lives”.
Chugtai added, “People were questioned according to their wishes. However, women marchers have endangered the lives of the Baaghi TV team and other journalists. We will not remain silent, we will pursue the matter and take the perpetrators to court”.

A picture of Urdu Point’s anchor Farrukh Shabaz Warriach was also placed alongside the others. Warriach took to Twitter to tweet that the move was made by the management of the Aurat March outside of Faletti’s Hotel, where pictures of several journalist friends, including me, were pasted on cutouts. Warriach added, “If this is freedom of expression, then it can only be regretted.”
