Bad news for Netflix password sharing users
Baaghi Tv (19th Oct, 2019): Netflix is reportedly set to crack down on the sharing of passwords, with friends and family or for business purposes.
Netflix has announced it is intentions to put limit on password sharing but in a “consumer-friendly way”.
As per details from The Independent, the topic of password sharing was discussed in the streaming platform’s Q3 2019 earnings interview earlier this month.
When Netflix users share passwords, they are essentially sharing a single Netflix account with others, which naturally affects badly on Netflix’s business model, according to which each household needs to have its personal account.
Netflix users are already able to share accounts to some extant by setting up their account to several viewing profiles on a single login, but password sharing takes that approach to another level.
Netflix’s chief product officer Greg Peters , was asked during the interview how the company plans to counter this password sharing issue without “alienating a certain portion of its user base”.
“We continue to monitor it so we’re looking at this alarming situation deeply,” Peters said. “We’ll see those consumer-friendly ways to push on the edges of that.”
Password sharing has been a topic of interest in the streaming industry Netflix for certain time.
According to the American research company Magid, 35% of millennials share their passwords for streaming services, compared to 19 per cent of Generation Xers and 13 per cent of Baby Boomers.

Did you guys check out the Irishman movie yet? You have to have Netflix though to watch it. I’m most excitited by the fact that it was produced by Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese. I really love those guys.
