Balochistan govt extends lockdown till May 19

Quetta: Balochistan government has extended the ongoing lockdown in the province for another 15 days till May 19 to ensure safety and stop the spread of coronavirus.

The provincial home department has issued a statement in this regard stating that the government has enacted Section 144 to stop the spread of coronavirus and extend the lockdown. Earlier, the lockdown which had to end at 12 noon today, has been extended for another 15 days till May 19.

Taking into account social distances during the lockdown in the province, ban on double riding of motorbikes besides women and children, closure of inter-district and inter-provincial public transport, ban on gathering of ten or more people and social and religious gatherings.

According to the announcement, educational institutions of the province will also remain closed till May 31, while shopping malls, cinemas, wedding halls, hotels, showrooms, shrines and courts will also be closed.

During the lockdown, construction material supply shops and warehouses, grocery stores, agribusinesses, petrol pumps, call centers, offices of non-governmental and welfare organizations will be allowed to open.

The statement by Balochistan government said that shops, businesses and offices that have been allowed to open have been instructed to take precautionary measures for coronavirus.

It should be noted that due to the increase in coronavirus cases in the country, the federal government had extended the partial lockdown till May 9.
