The BBC has apologized to US President Donald Trump for the Panorama edit however, the channel refuses to pay compensation.
BBC’s Panorama edit gave the mistaken impression that President Trump made a direct call to his followers calling for a violent action. Upon viewing this, Trump’s legal team immediately contacted the channels and threatened them contacted the channel and threatened them with a law suit worth $1 billion.
To avoid a legal battle, the legal team demanded BBC to retract, apologize, and compensate President Trump.

The compensate for the scandal BBC’s director general Tim Davie and head of news Deborah Turness resigned from their respective posts.
Britain’s leading media house issued a statement saying, “We accept that our edit unintentionally created the impression that we were showing a single continuous section of the speech, rather than excerpts from different points in the speech, and that this gave the mistaken impression that President Trump had made a direct call for violent action.”

According to BBC’s spokesperson, BBC’s chair Samir Shah sent a person letter to the White House apologizing on the corporation’s behalf for the edit to circulate on media.
Moreover, he assured that the 6th January 2021 was an unfortunate error for which responsible parties were punished.
Lastly, he adds how the defamation case is unnecessary and, how BBC offers its sincere apology for the Panorama edit.
Additionally, he emphasized that the team very strongly disagrees with the defamation case.

Liberal Democrats leader Sir Ed Davey requested the prime minister to “get on the phone to Trump,” to put to put a stop to his lawsuit threat, and “defend the impartiality and independence of the BBC.”
Former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney also commented on the footage. For instance, he criticized BBC for slicing together the President’s statement and making it look like an attempted coup.
