Beirut: 20 tons of explosives seized, tragedy averted

Beirut: Lebanese security personnel have discovered and seized a truck loaded with 20 tonnes of ammonium nitrate in Beirut.

According to reports, Lebanon’s Interior Ministry has reported the capture of a truck loaded with 20 tons of inflammatory chemical substance, ammonium nitrate, in Beirut.

Lebanese media states that after the truck was caught, the Lebanese Interior Minister Bissam Maulvi went to the area with the mayor to seize the cache.

The Interior Minister said that an investigation has begun into the matter, however, no facts have been revealed, neither the names of the arrested.

Bissam Maulvi said that they would try to transfer the material to safety to avoid heat and sunlight which would pose grave danger.

It may be mentioned that on August 4, 2020, a horrific explosion occurred with over 30,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate at the Beirut port, killing more than 200 people and injuring more than 6,000, and displacing another 300,000 people.

So far, no real cause for the horrific tragedy has been revealed, but some experts, after reviewing the videos that have surfaced, have revealed that the shocking incident was the result of an attack that could possibly involve the Zionist regime.
