Beirut: Protesters set fire to government buildings, killing a police officer, reportedly angry youths clashed with security forces outside the parliament building, knocked down a door.

Hundreds of people protested Saturday in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, against the government’s failure to deal with a sudden explosion near a port on August 4.Protesters also clashed with security forces and security forces fired tear gas to disperse the crowd.

 

Al-Arabiya’s correspondent reports that the angry protesters tried to remove obstacles from the road leading to the parliament building in Beirut’s Kusat, security forces fired tear gas to stop them.

Protesters removed a gate outside the parliament building, they were chanting slogans against President Michel Aoun and the Iranian-backed Shiite militia Hezbollah.

The Lebanese government has launched an investigation into the devastation caused by a devastating blast at a warehouse at a port in Beirut. Lebanese officials have confirmed 158 deaths and more than 6,000 people are injured.

According to Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab, the warehouse at the port had a storage capacity of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate.
