– And why the future must be built on peace, not fear
There have been one too many dictators, the despots, ruling hapless masses in recent history with absolute might and ruthless power. They have ruled mercilessly much in contravention with governing rules of civilised Governments.
The most noticeable are a few listed below.
- Stalin
- Hitler
- Col. Gaddafi
- Sadam Hussain
- Idi Amin Dada
- Kim Il Sung
Come to think of them, a cold shudder runs down ones body.

They were mighty big. Who couldn’t escape their notoriety or their ferocity. Each of them had a method to their madness.
Joseph Stalin was aware of the fact that Lenin knew him well. He remained under his wings became a paper pusher, an office job which was more of a cover up job for him. He never wanted people to be threatened by him… but he went on with his mission surreptitiously. Rose through the ranks and became no. 2 in position to Lenin. When Lenin was in a debilitating health, he knew that he would succeed him. He became the head of the communist party when Lenin passed away. He had his picture with Lenin which he had photoshopped to present to the people. His was a very imposing personality. That was probably the worlds biggest and the first Photoshop.

Terror and torture was the order of the day. Mayhem and destruction followed.
Neighbours denouncing neighbours, children denouncing parents. This all swirled into snowball of bloodletting.
During the great terror a total of 750,000 people were killed… but for Stalin this was just a plan to keep matters under control.

That was Stalin’s model, doesn’t matter if you killed too many, and any accusations being fake or true. The party decides whether it is true or not. The decision rests with the the higher authority, in this case, the dictatorship.
There is a higher truth in these dictatorships.
And that is the truth of power.
By redefining the model of truth he successfully maintained the stranglehold for 15 years.
The absolute power means changing people’s minds and building your own image.
Pavlik [Morozov] a young boy was made a mythical hero who gave his life owing loyalty to the state, who was known to be spilling beans about his father to the state who he believed was hoarding grain. As the story unfolds, his uncles took stock of the matter and killed him. The uncles were later apprehended and brought to justice. Such stories were published to extol the virtues of a boy being loyal to the state.

People also ask, what was Stalin’s policy of collectivisation?
Under collectivisation the peasantry were forced to give up their individual farms and join large collective farms (Kolkhozy). The process was ultimately undertaken in conjunction with the campaign to industrialise.

He used [Walter] Duranty to write articles for him who deliberately wrote for him in the New York Times, thereby, keeping the truth from spreading around the globe. He hid the truth and was rewarded for his unethical writing.
On the other hand, [Trofim] Lysenko had ushered his own theories to shift people’s focus and minds from thinking about the famine that grew worse overtime. He came up with his rather convoluted theory that by putting grain in the cold it could become resistant to cold. Stalin made him look like the scientific boss which he was not in reality at all. All other such luminaries were removed from their positions.
He did excesses, which no body on earth had the courage to counter him. Any body or whoever dared to make a move to this effect would be whisked away in broad light, never to be seen again. Such are the horror stories totally horrendous. Barbarity, callousness was managed with a sleight of a hand.
Most of the leaders had waged wars to perpetuate their stay in power.

When nothing works they would wage wars. Idi Amin during his agonisingly painful stint as a dictator had to wage war with Tanzania, when all else had proven useless. He had initially tortured civilians into submission, but when that didn’t work he came up with another idea. He had the Asians ousted ignominiously. The number was considerably larger. These were the same Asians whom the British brought with them from India to build railways and the rail tracks. This order was just to please the local Ugandans and to shift the minds of local people of what had been going on. He wanted the Asians to sell their businesses to the locals, who were given a deadline. It didn’t go well with the Asians. They left in utter disgust. A majority came in their cars to the airports and even left keys in their cars before they boarded the plane. No one came to say good bye even.
Thereafter the country descended into chaos, because the locals were not good businessmen. Everything went down the drain. It engendered smuggling and corruption.
So finally, after experimenting different ways of torture and mayhem, he decided to go to war with Tanzania.
The army men were not as trained as the Tanzanians. They came and hell broke lose. The Ugandans were up schitt creek and Dada showed a clean pair of heels. He exiled into Saudi Arabia and lived there till he died.
Did he have a peaceful journey? Was it perilous and turbulent? A reader must analyse and think what these so-called leaders do to their masses. They practice deception. They are duplicitous, perfidious using wars as casus belli to shift focus of a common man. Just like the Americans did to the Vietnamese. The gulf of Tonkin is a case in point. There was no fighting, but the real story was misreported and miscommunicated to John F. Kennedy by the then secretary defence McNamara. Hence, it blew out of proportion. The war now escalated in full.

We don’t want them: Trump issues travel ban on 12 countries
Losing 57,200 active American servicemen, and killing one million, overall. What did the warring countries get out of it… nothing except humiliation. McNamara and Henry Kissinger have been the ones responsible for the conflagration to spread. It has never been for the public good.
I have yet to know another leader except Mandela, whose name would go down in history as a liberator. Most of them will live in infamy.

Same was witnessed in the recent war between Pakistan and India. Pakistan has never been an aggressor nor it wants war with any of its neighbours. It’s a tragedy that Pakistan has been led into some proxy wars though in the past, not ones of its own choosing, and the result of which has been devastating. 70,000 people killed in that misadventure. After 9/11 we have had a tumultuous journey. The people want to live in eternal peace but we are tucked into this vortex. Pakistan has learnt a lesson the hard way. But with India we have never tried to provoke or instigate them. Our preceding and successive governments have tried to exercise restraint and dealt matters with absolute caution because we want peace with our neighbours, especially with India.

On the pretext of a false flag operation we were again drawn into a war. Nobody wants body bags on either side. The loss of human lives is regretted and lamented. We want peace. We wanted it before and we want it still.
India must also think on the same lines. Both countries could work in tandem to boost trade and uplift the socio-economic condition of the people of either side. Please don’t use people as human shields. I say it openly. This holds good for both the countries.
Peace! Nothing but peace.. because no fascist could ever glorify himself into becoming an immortal. Those who have been humane are the ones who will be remembered as men of peace. Nehru was a leader who was soft and always resorted to peaceful ways of handling matters.
Mr. Modi must follow in the footsteps of their founding fathers. Let peace prevail, therefore.
True legacy lies in mending broken structures and not using them for personal gains or aggrandisement.
We need to improve government structures and remove institutional redundancies.
