WAZIRABAD – October 10, 2025: In a shocking case of domestic violence, a 22-year-old newlywed woman was allegedly killed by her in-laws after being forced to drink acid over a dowry dispute in the outskirts of Wazirabad. The brutal incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting calls for swift justice.
According to police and family sources, the victim, identified as Rukhsar from Gujranwala, was married to Altaf Hussain of Kala Sike on September 12, 2025. Within days of the wedding, tensions reportedly arose over the dowry. The victim’s family alleged that Rukhsar’s in-laws — particularly her husband, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law — subjected her to mental torture and constant taunts regarding insufficient dowry.

The family further claimed that Rukhsar was forcibly given acid by her husband and mother-in-law, leaving her critically injured. She was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) but succumbed to her injuries on the way.
Upon receiving the report, Ahmednagar Chattha Police swiftly reached the scene, arresting Altaf Hussain and his mother. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing. Police officials confirmed that the suspects are being interrogated, while the forensic team has collected evidence from the residence.

However, the accused husband has denied the allegations, claiming that Rukhsar consumed acid of her own accord. Law enforcement authorities say all aspects of the case are being examined, including the possibility of premeditated murder.
The bereaved family has appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and the Inspector General of Police to ensure justice and exemplary punishment for those responsible. The incident has reignited debate over dowry-related violence, which continues to claim lives despite existing laws banning the practice.
