BTS makes history at the 2020 VMAs
31st August: First time in the history of MTV awards an Asian pop group won the award for the category of the Best Pop.
According to reports, BTS’s nomination for Best Pop marked the first time in history that any Asian group ever got nominated in one of the MTV Video Music Award’s main categories.
The famous South Korean septet won the award for their February release “ON,” an anthem of self-empowerment and hope, from their fourth studio album ‘Map of the Soul: 7.’
BTS song Dynamite sets a YouTube record
The group which comprises RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, were also nominated for VMAs for Best Pop, Best K-pop, Best Group, and Best Choreography this year and they managed to win all four awards.

To win the Best Pop category for their single ‘On’, the band beat several amazing singers including Halsey, the Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber and Quavo, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, and Taylor Swift.

BTS also took the stage at the VMAs and for the very first time, performed their brand new single ‘Dynamite’ live. They showed off their smooth choreography dressed in stylish seventies-style suits dancing through the streets of New York City thanks to a massive virtual setup filmed in Seoul.
‘Dynamite’ is the group’s first English-language track.

With the release of ‘Dynamite’ on August 21st, BTS broke numerous records and the official music video became the biggest YouTube live premiere in the website’s history, as it managed to attract 3 million viewers.
The video now holds the record for most views for a music video in 24 hours with 101.1 million views.

The group is also set to drop a new music album sometime in the last quarter of 2020.
In India, the track managed to break a single-week record for most ever streams by a song on Spotify with over 2.4 million streams.
