February 19, 2021: According to a report by Baaghi TV, the by-election proceeding in PPP-51 Gujranwala has violated the code of conduct. Election Commission issued notice to Provincial Minister Mian Mahmood Al-Rasheed. ECP sought reply from Mahmood Al-Rasheed in two days, a statement issued by the Election Commission said. The ECP guidelines state that according to the Code of Conduct, no Minister or Member of Assembly can participate in active campaigning.
N-League candidate Noshin Iftikhar visited Government Degree College polling station in Daska. On the other hand, the Chief Election Commissioner has directed the Provincial Election Commissioners of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to take non-discriminatory action against violations of the Electoral Code of Conduct and to ensure free, fair and impartial conduct of elections.
Polling is underway for by-elections in two constituencies of National and Provincial Assemblies. PML-N and PTI are expected to face each other in NA-75 Daska and PP-51 Gujranwala. The MPA was vacated due to the death of Shaukat Manzoor Cheema and the PML-N has nominated Shaukat Manzoor Cheema’s widow Begum Talat Manzoor Cheema as its candidate while the PTI has fielded Chaudhry Muhammad Yousuf. The candidate is Nasir Mahmood. The PML-N had won the seat by a margin of more than 31,000 votes during the general elections.
