DG CAA's appointment challenged in IHC

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has decided to get the services of professional bird shooters to kill the birds which collide with airplanes and cause accidents on the outskirts of Lahore and Karachi airports.

According to details, the CAA has deployed these professionals on the outskirts of airports at Lahore and Karachi.

The CAA said that bird shooters have been positioned at Lahore and Karachi airports and letters have also been written to the district administration and local bodies instructing the agencies to take steps for cleanliness around the airport. The professional shoots would shoot all birds intruding the landing and take-off zones on runways of both airports.

Bird shooters, pressure horns, acoustic guns, fire crackers, scarecrows and patrolling are the few available resources used by the CAA. No wonders why the aviation regulator is depending on outdated methods that may cause plane crash incidents when advanced technology is available.

Wake up CAA, Bird hit cases increasing day by day!

The CAA said, “The residential areas near the airports attract birds to the garbage dumps. Surrounding areas outside the airport fence are beyond the jurisdiction of PCAA for which it constantly approaches the civic authorities for proper action against bird activity.”

The aviation regulator further said, “Public awareness campaigns are carried out by distributing pamphlets, banners, and making announcements from mosques loudspeakers.” The key objective of the campaign is to create awareness about the issue of bird strike on the aircraft and its implications on the aviation industry, ensuring safe flight operations at airports.

Bird hits have caused numerous accidents resulting in aircraft damage and human casualties. The bird hits should not be taken lightly as it may end up into a disaster or a nightmare for the pilots, travelers as well as for any airline.
