Lahore, 18th May: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has submitted an investigation report before the Supreme Court regarding the fake pilots’ licenses.

The report submitted by CAA reveals a web of mismanagement, irregularities and corruption in the process of pilot examinations.

The report said that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) provided misinformation to around 30 pilots.

Express Tribune reported that several pilots sent someone else to take the exams in their places. It further revealed that two of the pilots were not present in Pakistan to take the exam, while 28 pilots took the test on a weekend.

Meanwhile, the report said that the licenses of two senior joint directors who were involved in corruption by giving illegal access to the pilots to the examination system, have been invalidated.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has filed criminal cases against them.

The CAA informed Pakistan’s Supreme Court that the licenses of at least 32 out of 54 pilots have been suspended for their involvement in dubious practices.

It is pertinent to mention here that the issue emerged last year after a PIA plane crashed in Karachi on May 22, which killed 97 passengers and crew members.

The cause of the accident was reported to be a ‘human error’.

However, it was later revealed in June 2020 that 262 pilots had fake licenses.

Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar told the National Assembly on June 22, last year that people with fake degrees were appointed on a political basis.
