Bangladesh announces not to conduct O and A Level exams held by Cambridge board

Lahore, 29th March: The government of Bangladesh has announced not to conduct the O and A Level examinations in the country this year.

According to reports of Baaghi TV, with the increase in coronavirus cases and situation getting worse in Bangladesh, the education ministry has decided not to conduct Cambridge exams in the country.

According to a notification in the country’s Gazette, the Secondary and Higher Education Division, under the Ministry of Education, announced, ”Considering the prevailing situation which is still beyond control due to the pandemic, no public exams under any Bangla medium or general educational institutions are taking place now, to ensure health safety of the students and teachers in Bangladesh.”

“It further read, “The Cambridge board exams in the UK and our neighboring countries have already been cancelled due to the latest surge in COVID-19 cases.”

The circular mentioned that due to the overall situation due to the pandemic it will not be logical to conduct the exams in the country.

The notification ended, “Hence, we urge that the O and A Level exams scheduled for April not be held.”

It is to be noted that earlier, the British examination boards Pearson Edexcel International announced on February 3 that its international exams would not go ahead as planned this summer.

OxfordAQA, a UK examination board on January 28 said that due to COVID-19 it would be impossible to go ahead with the exams as planned.

UK Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove has announced that board exams, including GCSEs and A Levels, would be cancelled this year.

This will be the second year in a row that Cambridge exams get cancelled in the country and students will be awarded grades based on teachers assessments.

According to reports, similar decision has been taken by the education ministries in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar as well.
