Sept 3, 2021: Islamabad Accountability Court has given its verdict in the case of CDA officers’ involvement in the illegal construction of multi-storey building Safa Gold Mall in Sector F-7 of Islamabad.

The court sentenced former deputy director general CDA Ghulam Murtaza Malik to five years imprisonment for illegally constructing the upper four floors of Safa Gold Mall in Jinnah Super with the connivance of CD officers.

The owner of Safa Gold Mall, Rana Qayyum sentenced to 7 years imprisonment, while the court imposed a fine of Rs 1 billion on CDA officers Ammar Idrees, Khalil Ahmed, Khadim Hussain were also sentenced to imprisonment, Accountability Court Islamabad Judge Azam Khan ruled on NAB reference. The convicts were found guilty of constructing illegal floors of the building and misusing their powers.

It is clear that in 2018, the CDA had sealed two floors of Safa Gold Mall located in Sector F-Seven of Islamabad. According to the officials, both the floors were constructed illegally.

The petition was filed, the petitioner had said that NAB sealed three floors of Safa Gold Mall, NAB sealed three floors of Safa Gold Mall on the orders of Chairman NAB, reference in accountability court against Safa Gold Mall. The NAB’s decision should be quashed pending the decision of the accountability court.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani had inquired that you did not challenge the 2017 decision of the accountability court. The petitioner’s lawyer said that we have challenged the 2017 decision of the accountability court.

The NAB did not say in its notice why it wanted to seal more floors.
