May 24, 2021: A statement from Bangladesh’s foreign ministry said the change of wording did not mean it had lifted its travel ban on Israel.
BaaghiTV: Bangladesh’s passport used to say that it is useful for the whole world except Israel, but now it has been changed to ‘This passport is suitable for all countries of the world’.
Last week, an Israeli Foreign Ministry official, Gilad Cohen, shared a news item in a tweet claiming that Bangladesh had changed the wording of its passports, in fact, it has lifted its travel ban on Israel.
Great news! #Bangladesh has removed travel ban to Israel. This is a welcome step & I call on the Bangladeshi government to move forward and establish diplomatic ties with #Israel so both our peoples could benefit & prosper.@IsraelMFA #IsraelLooksEast https://t.co/LbOLbm9dfG

On the other hand, a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh said that the change of text does not mean that it has lifted its travel ban on Israel. The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the change was intended to bring e-passports up to international standards and that travel bans to Israel remain in place. The statement said that there would be no change in Bangladesh’s foreign policy with the Middle East and that the Bangladeshi government had not deviated from its position on the issue of Israel. Bangladesh would maintain its long-term position.
It should be noted that Bangladesh is one of the 18 member states of the United Nations that does not recognize Israel and it is one of the many countries whose citizens are banned from traveling to Israel.
