China has recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases in a single day in the past 21 months, while the number of cases has doubled in the northwestern city of Xi’an.

According to the foreign news agency Reuters, the city of Xi’an with a population of approximately 13 million has become the new center of COVID-19 in China. It’s been 4 days since the lockdown has been implemented in the city, while 155 cases of local relocation of COVID-19 were reported in the city on Saturday, up from 75 a day earlier.

A total of 158 cases of COVID-19 were reported in a single day in China, which is the highest number of cases in a single day since the start of 2020.

Between December 9 and 25, 485 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Xi’an, after which strict measures were taken to stop the spread of the virus. These measures are the result of China’s policy to control the spread of COVID-19 anywhere as soon as possible.

An official from Xi’an told a news conference that the cases had been identified through three large-scale tests in the city. He also said that the next few days could see an increase in the number of cases.

“We will expedite virus control measures in key areas, especially in high-risk areas, for immediate screening of infected groups of people following expert analysis,” he said.

The local government has also announced that it will launch a citywide disinfection campaign at 6 pm local time. In this regard, the citizens have been urged to keep the house windows closed and take clothes and other items from the balconies inside the house.

Citizens cannot leave the city without the approval of their employer or local authorities. Extensive testing has been carried out several times to identify cases.

The city administration has announced that no infection has been reported due to the omega-3 type of corona. On the other hand, Chinese authorities have reported the Omicron variant among some international travelers in southern China.
