The measures taken by the Chinese authorities to prevent the spread of a new wave of coronavirus in Beijing have also led to restrictions on citizen journalists.

A few days ago, a virus was discovered in a market in the Chinese capital Beijing, which revealed at least 158 new cases. It was the first time such a large number of new patients had been diagnosed since the government announced control of the virus in March.

Most reports of the second wave of coronavirus came from China’s state-run news channels, and police cracked down on citizen journalists and bloggers who shared the news on their blog or page.

Xinfadi market in the city’s south-western Fengtai district was shut down in the early hours of Saturday, after two men who had recently visited the market were reported to have Covid-19.

Tests at the market then showed 45 people had the virus.

China’s coronavirus outbreak was brought under control through some of the world’s strictest lockdown measures after the disease was detected in the city of Wuhan.

More than 4,600 people in China have lost their lives to the coronavirus out of around 426,000 worldwide, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
