Choice of theater after TV and film in Pakistan industry is called career suicide: Gohar Rashid

Gohar Rashid, a well-known actor in the Pakistani showbiz industry, says that in the Pakistani showbiz industry, if an actor chooses theater after TV and film, it is a wrong decision of his career.

Baaghi TV: In a recent interview given to private TV channel, Dawn, Pakistani actor Gohar Rashid, talked about his career. Rashid has worked in theater, TV and cinema in his career. According to Rashid, he still can’t believe that he is considered an actor in the Pakistan showbiz industry because he has been criticized many times in his life.

Gohar Rasheed said in his interview that, I don’t even know the answer to the question why I came in the industry, and how did I come? So this is just the grace of Allah. Rashid added that my father used to say that I would not be able to be a part of the entertainment industry. When I met the directors after coming to Pakistan, everyone would ask me, if I have I acted before, on which I could only show my degree.

The Ishqiya actor said that in 2011 he got a call from a channel called Style 360 which was then being run by Pakistan’s former supermodel and actress, Vaneeza Ahmed, at that time. She offered Rashid the position of line producer, after which she helped him on many other occasions as well.

The actor said that things changed for him when he was offered the lead role in the successful 2014 drama, Digest Writer. He said that he had initially refused to act in the play. Following which his co-star, Saba Qamar, had told him that he should do this drama because people will remember him for his character, Shaukat.

Rashid said that after finding similar roles in dramas, he decided to return to the theater which is considered career suicide in showbiz. He added that in Hollywood big actors do movies as well as theater shows, however, theater after TV in Pakistan, is considered a personal failure for the actor or actress.

Gohar Rashid has acted in Anwar Maqsood’s theatrical plays including, Half Plate. Rashid later gained fame by acting in dramas like Mann Mayal alongside former actor, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Maya Ali.

Rashid further said that he learned a lot from the failure of his 2017 film Rangreza. He said that when the trailer of the said film came out, people praised me a lot, but after the failure of the film, everyone started saying that, my career will end. But, I learned a lot from the failure of this film.

The actor is currently working on a play called Ishqiya, while he has also starred in upcoming films The Legend of Maulla Jutt and London Nahi Jaunga. According to Gohar Rasheed, in the movie London Nahi Jaunga, he has played a role similar to that of ‘Circuit’ from the Bollywood movie Munna Bhai MBBS.

Gohar Rashid added that he will be seen in the film alongside Humayun Saeed, as his circuit.
