Lahore, 15th May: A high-level alert has been issued in Sindh regarding a cyclone arising from the Arabian Sea.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed the Karachi administration to take precautionary measures in view of the threat of Cyclone Tauktae.

According to details, in view of Cyclone Taukate, an administrative meeting was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah in which the Director Meteorological Department gave a briefing.

The meeting was also attended by Sindh Government Spokesperson, Legal Adviser, Environment and Coastal Development Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah, Commissioner Karachi Naveed Ahmed Sheikh, DGP DMA Salman Shah and others.

During the meeting, the Sindh Chief Minister directed to form an emergency plan team in view of the typhoon and said that steps should be taken to formulate an emergency plan in consultation with the Met Office and PDMA.

Murad Ali Shah said that if the cyclone hits Gujarat, there will be heavy rains in Thar. DC Thar should take the necessary steps.

He directed that the choking points of the canals should be cleared and fishermen should not go to sea from tomorrow.

Instructing the Chief Secretary to set up a control room, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that a BS 19 officer should be made the head in the control room.

He also directed all concerned DCs to set up control rooms in their offices while Irrigation Department set up control rooms at barrages.

The Chief Minister directed Administrator Karachi to remove the billboards from the city.

The Sindh Chief Minister directed all the cantonment boards in Karachi to make arrangements in their areas while the provincial ministers Nasir Shah and Faraz Dero also remained in Karachi.

It is to be noted that Cyclone Tauktae will likely hit Karachi causing heavy rain from May 17 to 20.
