Coincidences in the stories of 3 men holding key positions in Afghan Leadership

May 7, 2021: BaaghiTV: There are three leaders of Afghanistan who are currently considered to be extremely hostile to each other. But it is a strange coincidence that all three were awarded scholarships by the United States in 1957.

The three are Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, Taliban leader Sher Muhammad Abbas, and US diplomat Zalmai Khalilzad. Ashraf Ghani is the current President of Afghanistan. His full name is Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai. He was born on May 19, 1949. He is an Afghan politician and economist.

Currently serving as the President of the country, he was first elected on September 20, 2014 and was re-elected in the September 28, 2019 presidential election. He was born in Logar Province to a wealthy Pashtun family. He received his primary education at Habibia High School in Kabul. He graduated from the American University of Beirut. This is where he met his future wife, Rola Ghani, a Lebanese Christian woman with whom he had two children. After graduation, he returned to Afghanistan to teach at Kabul University and in 1977 received a government scholarship to enter Columbia University in New York City to pursue a master’s degree.

The other Taliban leader is Sher Muhammad Abbas Stanikzai. An Afghan Taliban politician, he is currently serving as the group’s political leader. Stanikzai is an ethnic Pashtun sub-tribe.

In 1963, he studied at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun, Logar District, Brooklyn. He was involved in the training of Afghan army officers in the 1970s. He fought in the Soviet-Afghan war. Under Foreign Affairs, he served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

He later became the Deputy Minister of Health. He often gave interviews to foreign media. In 1996, as Secretary of State, he traveled to Washington, D.C., to ask the Clinton administration for diplomatic approval of the Taliban. He facilitated the opening of a Taliban political office in Qatar. Arrived in Qatar in January 2012.

On August 6, 2015, Tayyab Agha, who had resigned, was appointed acting head of the acting political office in Qatar. In November 2015, he was confirmed as the head of the political office. From 22nd, 2016, he visited China for talks with Chinese officials. In February 2017, he was denied entry to the UAE. From 7 to 10 August 2018, he led a delegation of Taliban officials to Uzbekistan.

The third most important Afghan is Zalmay Khalilzad whose full name is Zalmai Mamozi Khalilzad. Born on March 22, 1951. One is a US diplomat who has served as the Special Representative for Afghanistan’s Reconciliation in the State Department since September 2018. He is the US Ambassador to the United Nations under President George W. Bush, President Barack Obama from 2004 to 2005, and He was ambassador to Iraq from 2005 to 2007.
