Complete lockdown expected in Karachi amid rising cases of Delta variant

Lahore, 29th July: A complete lockdown is expected in Karachi after the hospitals in the city became full amid the rising cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in Sindh.

According to details, the Sindh government is considering imposing a complete lockdown in Karachi after the city’s hospitals neared saturation point.

Members from the provincial task force on coronavirus said on Thursday that the final decision to impose a lockdown in Karachi would be taken in a meeting tomorrow at 11 am. The meeting tomorrow will be chaired by Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah.

Delta variant now accounts for 100% of cases in Karachi

Meanwhile, provincial government officials told Geo News that doctors within the task force have urged the government to impose a 14-day lockdown in the city.

The task force members said that hospitals are nearing a saturation point with coronavirus cases in Karachi rising rapidly.

Hence, representatives of the Pakistan Medical Association have already demanded a complete lockdown across Sindh province.

Doctors urge govt to declare health emergency in Karachi

The health experts in the task force reported that in the last two days more than 370 COVID-19 patients had been admitted to hospitals in Karachi. They said that the pressure on oxygen supply is increasing with the influx of patients.

Therefore, health experts have urged the provincial government to close the businesses and impose a complete ban on public movement during the lockdown.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, who is also the head of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), has expressed concern over the positivity ratio in Karachi.
