Around 283 people, including 272 inmates and 11 officials of Karachi Central Jail, have tested positive for coronavirus and have been quarantined.

According to IG Prisons Sindh, Nusrat Mangan, testing of coronavirus has been started for inmates and staff members in jails across Sindh.

According to IG Prisons, 850 inmates have been tested in Karachi Central Jail so far, out of which 272 have tested positive for the virus. However they have been kept in isolation in their homes.

The IG Prisons has expressed concern over the increase in corona cases in jails.

Furthermore, he said that all the inmates in the jail will be tested while ward of the jail hospital has been prepared for coronavirus cases.

It may be recalled that the number of corona cases across Sindh is approximately 20,000 while 336 people have lost their lives.
