Lahore, 2nd March: Singapore Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong has assured the citizens about the efficient handling of the situation due to the out break of coronavirus.

As the novel coronavirus has started to spread rapidly around the world, UK, Middle East and US, there’s one place where it is seemingly being contained and that is Singapore.

There is still no reported death from COVID-19 in Singapore, according to the sources, despite 96 confirmed cases of the disease. Singapore is an Asian country proving that this virus, if not contained, can be neutralized.

Coronavirus: Death toll exceeds 3,000 globally

Methods to combat the virus:

Their Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong addressed the nation about the raising concerns on coronavirus and assured them of the best possible treatments and precautions carried out by the government to control COVID-19.

Its their top-notch health system, draconian tracing and containment measures, and a small population that is ready to accept their government’s expansive orders, that has so far kept the situation under control.

They have devised vigilant plans and keep their citizens informed, according to their PM they had undergone the crisis of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), 17 years ago, so they are much better prepared to deal with coronavirus this time.

They have adequate supply of facial masks and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), they have expanded and upgraded their medical facilities. Singapore has well trained doctors and nurses and advanced research capabilities now.

Similarity with SARS:

According to a recent video, showing the Prime Minister of Singapore talking to his citizens, shows how a responsible leader can tackle an emergency situation in his country. He informs the nation that the coronavirus is similar to SARS but with two important differences: First, the new virus is more infectious than SARS, therefore, its harder to stop it from spreading.

Coronavirus: The virus and its types that may affect Humans

Secondly, the new virus is less dangerous than SARS, the mortality rate of SARS was 10%, however the death rate of coronavirus is 0.2%, outside the Hubei Province, closer to the seasonal Influenza that has a mortality rate of 0.1%.

Steps to contain the spread:

On discovering the coronavirus cases, they have quarantined them and their close contacts, which has contained the spread of the virus.

Singapore has stepped up their measures by:

Reducing the mingling in schools.

Coronavirus: Debunking Myths

Tightening up the access to their hospitals.

Taking the extra precautions at public events.

Steps to be taken on personal Level:

Observe personal hygiene.

Wash your hands regularly.

Avoid touching your eyes and face unnecessarily.

Take your temperature daily.

If you are not well, avoid crowded places and consult your doctor immediately.

These simple steps don’t take much effort, but they go a long way in controlling the spread of virus.

Next level safety measures:

According to the Singapore PM, Lee Hsien Loong, if the situation gets out of control and the flu-like-virus starts to spread rapidly, they have devised vigilant plan ahead to deal with such a catastrophe. He suggests that the people who will have mild symptoms showing COVID-19, should go to their regular GP and get checked, stay at home and should rest, so that the particularly qualified staff is available to handle the vulnerable patients and look after them diligently. By doing this their specialized hospitals will be less over whelmed with the coronavirus sufferers and proper care be given to the severe cases.

The PM ends his video on a reassuring note and asks his citizens to remain calm and not to panic, as it will only increase the complexity of the situation, they have fought together with the SARS epidemic before and this time too, by remaining calm and steadfast the situation will be handled in a better way.

These simple and concentrated efforts by the government and the people should be adopted by every country/nation in order to combat the global calamities.
