Coronavirus: First case reported positive in Karachi

Karachi, 26th Feb: A spokesperson for the Sindh Health Department confirmed on Wednesday, the first positive case of coronavirus, in Karachi.
As per the reports, a 22 year old boy, whose name is Yahya Jaffri, has been kept under observation in a Medical Institute in Karachi on the suspicion of showing coronavirus symptoms.
Health and Population Welfare Minister Meeran Yousuf, said in a statement that Yahya had travelled to Iran and from there he contracted the virus.
The patient had travelled back from Tehran to Karachi on the 20th of February and showed signs of the virus. On getting checked, he and his family have been quarantined and been kept under close observation.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health, Dr Zafar Mirza confirmed two cases of coronavirus, on Wednesday, minutes after the first case was reported in Pakistan’s port city. He tweeted on his Twitter account:
“I can confirm first two cases of corona virus in Pakistan. Both cases are being taken care of according to clinical standard protocols & both of them are stable,” Dr Mirza wrote on Twitter.

According to him, there are two confirmed cases of coronavirus, one found in Karachi, and the second one is found in Islamabad, the details of which are yet to be known. However, both the cases are under observation and kept in isolation separately and well taken care of.
It may be noted that Pak-Iran border has been sealed due to the outbreak of coronavirus in Iran, where 19 people have died and 129 people have been infected including their Health Minister, Iraj Harirchi. The death toll is highest in Iran after China.
According to the sources, Balochistan has stopped all sorts of trade and travel to Iran through Taftan border.
Coronavirus has effected more than 80,000 people globally and more than 27,000 have been killed so far.
World Health Organization has declared a global emergency on account of the outbreak of coronavirus.
