Coronavirus: Pakistan Lockdown extended till April 14

Lahore, 1st April: Keeping in view the situation due to coronavirus in the country, the government has decided to extend the lockdown.
According to reports of Baaghi TV, after the spike in the number of COVID-19 in the country, the government of Pakistan has announced to extend the lockdown till the 14th of April. This step is necessary in order to contain the spread of the virus countrywide.
Asad Umar, the federal minister for planning and development, said the decision to maintain coronavirus restrictions in the country for two more weeks was taken in a meeting of the National Coordination Committee.
A lockdown had been imposed in the country on the 24th of March 2020, amid the wide-spread of the deadly virus in Pakistan. The government initially announced the lockdown for two weeks, but due to the rise in the number of confirmed cases, the government has taken a decision to further increase the lockdown for one more week.

This step is essential as the total toll is now 2,107 in the country showing that the infection is spreading but the rate is slow due to the timely steps taken, of social distancing and lockdown imposed on the people.
Asad Umar, the federal minister pointed out that the restrictions have helped in keeping the situation under control, however, there is no need to increase the restrictions, as Pakistan is not a resourceful country like the US.
The grocery stores and fruit and vegetable shops are ordered to close till 5 pm, however, pharmacies and the petrol pumps are exempted from this time limit. The flights and railways are closed down, there is a ban on traveling outside any city. The incoming and outgoing international passenger flights have been called off.
According to Asad Umar, the government has decided to partially resume international flight operations from the Islamabad airport and the first PIA flight will arrive on April 4.

He said that the arriving passengers will be screened at the airport and placed in an isolation facility. They will be allowed to leave after they test negative for the virus, the minister added.
Moeed Yousuf, Prime Minister Imran Khan’s special assistant on National Security, said PIA will run 17 flights from April 3 till April 11.
He added that the PIA flights will bring back Pakistani citizens from Malaysia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Canada, and the UK.
