Coronavirus: Pakistan seals Wagah Border

Hindu pilgrims from India enter Pakistan through Wagah
Lahore (19th Mar, 2020): Government of Pakistan decides to seal the Wagah Border amid the spread of the novel Coronavirus, identified as COVID-19. 

According to reports of Baaghi TV, the government of Pakistan Ministry of Interior has decidedly issued notification to seal Wagah Border connecting Pakistan with India through Lahore, due to the rise in Coronavirus cases across the state.

Reportedly, the Director General Pakistan Rangers for Punjab, has received the notification to close the gates of Wagah Border with immediate effect. Naqeeb Arshad, who is the Section Officer in Pakistan Rangers has  issued the orders to sealing the border for an “initial period of two weeks (14 days) with immediate effect”. The above is to ensure that the spread of COVID-19 is contained within the limits of Pakistan, keeping in view the “best interest of both countries”.

According to reports of Baaghi TV, the latest total of confirmed cases in Pakistan is 343 with the lowest number of cases being reported in capital territory [primarily, two cases] and highest in Sindh with almost 213 reported cases. Moreover, confirmed deaths due to the Coronavirus cases in Pakistan is also two, both cases were confirmed in Pakistan’s northern region, as per Baaghi TV’s reports.
